The Calle San Francisco Multi-Purpose Cooperative was duly registered in the Cooperative Development Authority of the Office of the President of the Republic of the
Philippines on July 20, 2004. Its principal goal is socio-economic self-reliance of its members through livelihood projects, efficient management of material and human resources and ongoing education on cooperative ventures.
Services Provided
The Cooperative provides farm infrastructures that are most accessible to farmers: a rice mill, warehouse, solar rice dryer and multi-purpose center. The farmers are also provided with farm equipment like tractor and thresher at minimum rental fee. In 2005 two more structures were added: A Kitchen for food processing and preparation and a more spacious multi-purpose hall.

More women and out-of-school youths are gainfully employed in livelihood projects, which are being organized and supervised by the Cooperative. These are the projects on backyard vegetable gardening, pig fattening, food preparation and preservation and sewing of clothes.

Offers on-going education, through seminars and workshops, on the basic rights and responsibilities to God and fellow human beings, on holistic approach towards personal growth and community development and on developing of skills in programming and management.
Coordinates with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, (DENR) in the distribution of rice seedlings and fertilizers during the planting season. During the dry season (March-May) the Cooperative conducts seminars on the importance of crop rotation and the cultivation of plants rich in nitrogen fixing bacteria, like soy beans and peanuts for soil conservation. It also coordinates with school heads in behalf of the Mothers in the Project on Sewing, for contract to sew students’ school uniforms.
Provides potable running water to the
Multi-purpose
Center, the Rice Mill, the warehouse and to ten families of poor farmers. Several families, who can not afford to pay for the connection of water pipes to their homes, fetch potable water from the same source. Today the Cooperative provides water from the deep well for backyard vegetable gardening of several families and for irrigation of other rice fields in its vicinity.

During the harvest season, when there is an over-supply of unhusk rice, the Cooperative buys as much of the produce as it can afford and during the lean months ration out husked rice to poor people at price they can afford. In this way the farmers are assured of steady supply of good cheap rice on their tables the whole year through. Through this scheme, the farmers are also slowly weaning themselves from the vicious cycle of “debt dependency” created by unscrupulous business speculators.
Ten farmers and six small store owners are currently benefiting from the soft loans offered by the Calle San Francisco Multi-purpose Cooperative.
